SCENIC RESERVES.
TOWN-PLANNING REQUEST.
NEW LYNN POTTERY WORKS,
In reply to a letter of the Auckland Town Planning Association to tlie Minister of Lands (the Hon. G. W. Forbes) asking that a sum should be placed on the Supplementary Estimates for fho acquisition of land for scenic reserve purposes on Pigeon Mountain, Howick, it was stated last might at a meeting of the Auckland Town Planning Association in a covering letter by the Department that, as the amount of money allocated for such purposes was strictly limited, it would be unable to comply with the request. Further, it was considered by the Department that the matter was one for the local bodies rather than for the Government.
New Lynn residents wrote to the association asking that-some steps should be taken to prevent the proposed building of a pottery works in New Lynn. "The site chosen is right at the entrance to the suburb," said the letter, "and if the proposed extensions of the main highways scheme is carried out it will be directly in the route of the main way to the North." Such an institution, it was contended, was far from being ornamental. The matter had been brought before the Minister of Internal Affairs (the Hon. P. A. de la Perrelle) and before the local bodies and the co-opera-tion of the association was asked for. The matter was referred to the technical group for a report..
