GOLF.

NEW ZEALAND COUNCIL WINDETER CUP TOUBNEY. FORTHCOMING CHAMPIONSHIPS. At the monthly meeting of the New Zealand Golf Association Council at Wellington, the chairman (Sir Alexander Roberts) welcomed Colonel Chesney, who was elected to the council at the annual meeting of delegates at Wanganui last month. In connection with the championship meeting held recently at Wanganui, it was resolved that a letter of appreciation and thanks be sent to the Wanganui Club regarding the excellent way in which the tournament had been conducted. A letter was received from the Christchurch Club stating that they were willing to have the Kirk-Windeyer tournament at Shirley just before Easter and also to have a supplementary tournament very much on the same lines as the one held when the Australian golfers last visited New Zealand in 1928. It was resolved to advise the Australian Golf Union and the golf associations in the various States immediately so that arrangements could be made in good time.

A cablegram re the visit of Kirkwood and Hagen in February next was before the meeting. It was mentioned that an exhibition match would be played at Miramar on February 26.

It was stated that a match has also been arranged at Christchurch on Thursday, February 27, while inquiries have been received from the Auckland and Otago Clubs as to whether matches can be arranged there. So far the association has no further information regarding the champions' itinerary.

The request of the Manawatu Club that the 1930 championships be held on its course was considered. It was resolved that the application be considered in due course, with any other applications which may be received.

It was resolved that in future the club which is holding the autumn tournament be not asked to subsidise the prize money of £150 provided by the association's funds. It was considered that in view of the visit of Hagen and Kirkwood to Wellington on February 26, it might be a good thing to have the professionals' tournament (two days only) on the 27th and 28th of that month. It was resolved to ask the Wellington Club whether it would be willing to put on t tournament on those days, namely Thursday and Friday, February 27 and 28, if the Professionals' Association also considers the dates suitable.

It was decided to ask clubs which require the services of a professional early next year to send in their applications before their committees disband for this year, as new committees frequently do not meet until about March and it is then rather late to arrange for early visits.

A group of clubs in the King Country sent in a draft of proposed rules for the formation of a small local association, the object of which is to arrange for the holding or an annual championship meeting and the conduct of inter-club matches amongst the clubs in a defined area. The rules were perused by the council and approved of.

Forthcoming tournaments were advised as follow: —Wanganui, October 17, 18 and 19; Ashburton, October 26 and 27; Everslie, October 26 and 28; Hawera, October 26, 27 and 28; Masterton, Octoober 26 to 28; North Otag o (Labour Day tournament), October 28; Manawaut, October 26, 28 and 29; Maungakiekie, (Titirangi), October 26, 28 and 29; Seafield (Wanganui), October 26, 28 and 29; Avondale, January 1 and 2, 1930.
