T Jl #* «4 ~ f.e rr "-p" " ißait-ES. • , j£r U3fFAIRThe status of Government-owned houses was questioned by Mr. W. G. Russell ..at. last, night's meeting of the Mount "Albert Borough Council. Many.Government-built houses in the lioroughj said, had fallen back into the haids -of the Government because thei mortgagees could: not keep up their payments. As soon as the Government resumed ownership, the? . were exempfc^ifom. rates^-btft ; the Government had, Mr. rented -these houses.' This, he -considered, was unfair, as the Government had :< a big advantage over the private landlord who had to make rates out of his rents, Mr. Russell asked for, a full report on the.status of all houses in the borough owned by the Government, the report to be presented to the joint committee. His motion was carried.
