Y.W.C.A. NEWS.

Last Saturday evening the Y.W.C.A. gymnasium was a scene of gaiety when, ] at the invitation of the Y.W.C.A. Ladies' Hockey Club, the Auckland Ladies' Hockey Association held their closing function and presentation of trophies for the season just closed. The gymnasium was very gay, the walls and balcony being bedecked with many streamers bearing out the various teams' colours and a keenly contested programme whicb was very efficiently carried out under the guidance of Miss Marie Raisher. Mr. Gage Brown, patron of the association, presented to the captains of the winning teams the following trophies and badges won by their respective teams: — Senior grade championship (the Dawson cup and special badges) was won by two teams jointly, Wesley and Mount Eden. Wesley will hold the cup for the first six months. The runner's up cup was won by Y.W.C.A. Special badges pr«sented by Mrs. Fryer Raisher also weut with, this cup. Senior grade King's Birthday championship: Won by Arawa. Senior grade knock-out championship and special badges presented by Miss Queenie Ward: Won by Y.W.C.A. Junior Grade. —Junior grade championship cup and badges: Won by Papatoetoe. Junior grade runners-up cup: Won by Wesley A. Junior grade King's Birthday championship: Won by Papatoetoe. Junior grade knock-out championship: Won by Papatoetoe. Amongst those present at the function were: —Mr. and Mrs. Gage Brown, Mrs. Cowen (vice-president), Miss P. H.

Dawson (chairman of executive), Miss Begg (organising secretary of the Y.W.C.A. and Miss N. Crammond, physical culture instructress at the Y.W.C.A. and coach of the Y.W.C.A. teams and many members from all clubs belonging to the association. The supper arrangements were in the hands of Miss Elva Burton and Miss Eileen Coates. Following on the presentation of trophies, Mrs. Grant Cowen, vicepresident of the association, who has only recently returned from England, was the recipient of a bouquet of flowers from hockey friends, as a token of their pleasure at seeing her back once more amongst them.
