CHEAPER TO PAY FARES.
ALL-DAY TRAM TICKETS. PENALTIES FOR MISUSE. After a few more prosecutions people will no doubt realise that it is cheaper to pay a fare on the tramcar than to try and travel on an all-day ticket purchased by someone else. Three cases came before Mr. E. C. Cutten, S.M., to-day at the Magistrate's Court, Mr. 11. H. Mackay prosecuting on behalf of the Transport Board. T. 11. Glover pleaded guilty to having travelled by a tramcar and not tendered his fare. He was ordered to pay costs. C. Warman, who did not appear, was charged with wrongfully travelling on an all-day tram ticket. Mr. Mackay said the ticket was one that had been issued to a lady. A fine of 20/ and costs was imposed. C. Westwood was charged with wrongfully travelling on an all-day tram ticket. Mr. S. C. Clarke pleaded guilty on behalf of defendant, and asked that he be leniently dealt with, as this was one of three cases which, he contended, should all have been heard at the one time. Defendant had already been twice before the Court. Under the circumstances Mr. Cutten ordered defendant to pay costs.
