MANUREWA TOWN BOARD.

The Manurewa Town ■ Board held its fortnightly meeting last evening, the chairman (Mr. G. Gallaher) presiding over a full attendance of members. Member's Resignation.—Mr. W. Frost wrote confirming "his telegraphed resignation as a member of the board, expressing regret that his engagements in Wellington prevented him from continuing as such. He deprecated Mr. Fawcett's reported remarks at the previous meeting, relative to the writer, contending that they were uncalled for. Mr. Fawcett expressed surprise that his remarks had unintentionally caused offence. The chairman concurred that no offence had been intended and the matter was then dropped. i Hill Road.—Mr. A. W. Gillies wrote drawing attention to the danger occasioned to traffic by the sharp angles in Hill Boad opposite Messrs. Maxwell's and Sexton's respective properties, and also by the unusually narrow strip ot metalled roadway between the Farl ot Orford's entrance gate and Claude Koad. It was decided to reply thanking the writer and advising that the corners referred to had been acquired by the board and dedication was now being awaited. The shoulders of the road in the section referred to would be duly inspected. State Advances.-Mr. J. ><• Massey, M P for Franklin, wrote stating that'in response to the board's request he had interviewed the Department regarding the report that applications for State advances in Manurewa district were being refused. A letter was also received from the Department stating that all applications for building loans were considered individually on their merits, and that the applications were granted where -tlie security was considered satisfactory. Members expressed unanimous aproval of this advice. Workers' Trains—The Auckland Provincial Federation of Women's Institutes wrote requesting the board's co-operation in urging the Railway Department to extend the hours of availability of workers' tickets from 8 a..m. to 9 a.m. It was decided to assure the federation of the board's support and sympathy in the direction indicated.

The Papatoetoe Chamber of Commerce wrote in reference to the shifting of the Auckland station as affecting workers' trains, and suggesting that efforts be made to secure a supplementary service from a point considerably nearer Queen Street than the new station. ' It was decided to support the suggestion with the alteration that the improvement be extended to include all suburban trains. Traffic Laws.—The traffic inspector (Mr. D. Fletcher; tendered a detailed report covering the various phases of the Transport Laws Amendment Bill. He explained why he considered numerous clauses were detrimental to the interests of local bodies and the public generally. It was decided to forward same to Mr. J. N. Massey, M.P. Mosquitoes.—lt was decided to adopt the Health Department's recommendation and embody in the by-laws regulations ! relating to the control of the mosquito ! pest.
