THAT 1928 COMMITTEE.

POINTING A WEAKNESS. "The spirit of destruction is abroad," declared Mr. J. T. Merritt, speaking at the complimentary dinner tendered last evening to delegates to the Associated Chambers of Commerce Conference. He added that this feature was by no means confined to New Zealand and steps would have to be taken to safeguard property and wealth. Touching on the same question, Mr. C. P. Agar, of Christchurch, said' the Chambers of Commerce had not in the past clone all they could have done. This was instanced by the formation of the 1928 committee, whose operations should' have been unnecessary.. Mr. Agar strongly deprecated any narrowing tendency in their activities.
