"JUSTICE" DEMANDED.

DOMINION ROAD TRAMS.

THIRD SECTION STOP.

WHERE SHOULD IT BE?

When the Dominion Road tramway extension is completed there will be four sections from the city instead of three, as at present. A divergence of views exists amongst residents as to where the third section, now at Balmoral road, should end. Some are in favour of Halston Avenue, others of Kensington Avenue, and others agaiu think the division should be at Marsden Avenue. When the Auckland Transport Board met this morning, a letter was read from the town clerk of Mount Eden Borough, stating that his council had passed a resolution to the effect that the board should reconsider its decision to end the third section at Halston Road, with a view to making two new sections of equal length (the two sections from Valley Road to the new terminus at Mount Albert Road). Length of Sections. The letterwent on to say that a deputation had waited on the council and pointed out that the section from Valley Road to Halston Road was 80 chains, and from Halston Road to the terminus S9 chains, and the opinion had been expressed that the two sections could be made of approximately the same length by making the stop at Kensington Avenue. It was stressed that Halston Road was "blind," while Kensington Avenue, being a through street, would serve a greater number of residents if the stop were placed there. Petition Signed by 1066. Backing up this petition, a deputation consisting of Messrs. F. S. Battley, representing ratepayers in the Kensington Avenue area, and Mr. W. H. Nagle, a member of the Mount Eden Borough Council, waited on the board. In the course of representations made it was pointed out that a petition- had ueen sent in signed by 10G6 residents asking for the tram stop to be at Marsden Avenue "or at least at Kensington Avenue." Mr. Battley said that all that the residents desired was justice. They had been given this by the board as far as the number of sections was concerned but they wished that to be followed up by fair'treatment as to where sections ended. "Weary not of well-doing," he added. There would be no financial cost to the board in making the stop nearer Mount Albert Road than . now proposed. The board's experts had proposed Kensington Avenue. Welfare of Residents'. Mr. Nagle said the welfare of the residents as a whole should be considered. Unnecessary bogies in regard to business interests should not be raised. The chairman of the board (Mr. J: A. C. Allum) said the representations of the deputation would have full consideration. The wishes of the interested parties in the various localities would be regarded. Numerous representations had already been made and an awkward position had arisen. Naturally the board did not wish to impose hardship upon anybody. Mr. L. A. Tozer, representing shopkeepers of Dominion Road was heard, his representations being in the direction of supporting Halston Road as the stopping place. He received the same answer as the first deputation. The question is to be considered by the board in committee.
