SECOND WIND AND CAULFIELD CUP.

After Second Wind's convincing win in the Tullamarine Handicap at Moonee Valley on September 28 Mr. Lee Steere, the West Australian sportsman, who won the Caulfxeld Cup last year with Maple, looks like doing the trick again this year. In 1920 the famous Eurythmic won the Caulfiekl Cup for Mr. Lee Steere. When the betting market opens again (says a Melbourne writer) Second Wind will probably be a fourth favourite. Second Wind's form is puzzling. The field he met was not very strong, but the New Zealand-bred gelding scored impressively. Jack Holt always has his candidates at their top for the spring and this season seems to be 110 exception to the rule. Holt has an exceptionally strong team. With Highland he should be well up in the shorter weight-for-age races during the spring, unless, of course, he is to meet his match in, a horse like Albanian. It is unlikely, however, that if Albanian is being specifically prepared for the Caulfield, Cup, as is understood. Highland will have much to fear from this quarter. Against this there is the possibility that one or more of the three-year-olds may yet prove to be of weight-for-age standard. Highland's win in the Quality Handicap was a wonderful effort. That of his rider was equally wonderful. It is doubtful whether any other rider in Australia would have gone through the slight opening which presented itself at the home turn. In forcing a Way through this W.. -Duncan took a tremendous--risk, but fortune was with him.
