SOCIAL GATHERINGS.

The second annual meeting of the Mount Albert W.C.T.U. "was lield in the Presbyterian Hall on Thursday afternoon." There was a good attendance. The annual report was read and adopted. Superintendents' reports on various branches of work were also read. No new nominations were received for election as officers, and the retiring officers were unanimously re-elected.

On Saturday evening Sir. and Mrs. Hingley gave a party at their residence, Mount Eden, in honour of the birthdays of their daughters, Violet and Mollie. The room was decorated with streamers and balloons. Items were rendered by Miss Woolford and dancing, games and competitions were indulged in, prizes being won by Miss Barry, Miss Warren, Miss You and Master A. Wilson.

A very enjoyable and well-attended garden party was given at Bisliopscourt on Saturday afternoon by Archbishop Averill and Mrs. Averill. The guests were members of the Anglican Synod and their wives, members of the different societies connected with the diocese, and church wardens and their wives. The weather was delightful, and the guests were able to wander on the lawn, among the flower beds, or sit in the sunshine on the terrace and enjoy the beautiful view of the harbour with Bangitoto rising out of the haze in the distance. Archbishop and Mrs. Averill received their guests in the reception hall, from whence they passed into the lounge and drawing rooms. Tea was served both inside the house and on the lawn, and the time was pleasantly passed with conversation.

On Saturday evening, at the liome of j\lr. and Mrs. A. Aniiison, of Mount Albert, a delightful party was given to Miss Nellie Pullum, who is leaving shortly for England to be married. Mrs. Annison received her guests wearing black silk marocain, releived with beige crepe de chine. Among those present were:—Mesdames J. Kennedy, in daffodil lace and georgette; P. A pleasant evening was spent at the Ponsonby Hall on Saturday night on the occasion of the coming of age of Mi. Reginald Wesley Bennett. The hall M as gaily decorated. Over one hundred guests present were received by the hostess, Mrs. Johnson, who wore midnight blue, georgette with coloured motifs, and a pink shawl. She was assisted by Miss Gladys Buckley, in white satin, with silver lace pink satin. Amongst those present were:— Mrs. J.
