ANGLICAN SYNOD.
SEVERAL BILLS PASSED. APPEAL FOR CHURCH EXTENSION. Several bills were. passed at yesterday's sittings of the Church of England Diocesan Synod. Archbishop Averill presided. The best wishes of Synod to Arch--deacori H. Williams, ' bishop-elect of Waiapu, were expressed, on the motion of the Chancellor, Mr. C. J.' Tunfcs. ' '• -The Archbishop's special '"' fund for church extension was shown to have a cash balance of £352. In making reference to this.fund, his Grace asked for further donations. He had received about £2000, and the amount had been put to excellent uses in. extension, work in the diocese. In many ways the fund was one of the most useful. Mr. J. Hogben and Mr. A. B. Roberton were elected members of the Diocesan Pensions Board Special greetings were received from . the patriarchs of the Orthodox Church of Cyprus. This morning members of Synod . attended, the St. John College Association's festival at Tamaki, and were guests of the warden, Canon A. W. Payne, at luncheon. A garden party was held at Bishopscourt, Parnell, this afternoon, the guests being entertained bj the Archbishop and Mrs. Averill. Synod Sunday .will be observed to-mor-row. Holy Communion will be' celebrated' at St Mary's Cathedral, Archbishop Averill being the celebrant. Matins will be held at 11 o'clock, the preacher being the. Rev. W. N. Panapa, Maori missioner "at Kaikohe. The preacher at evensong 'wil be| the Rev. R. B. Davison, of St. George's Church, Thames. Monday afternoon and evening Synod will transact ordinary business, and conference of clergy will ge held on Tuesday morning, when they "will be entertained at luncheon by the Archbishop and Mrs. Averill. The wives of the visiting clergy "will be entertained at morning tea by Mrs. Averill on Wednesday.
