RED COMET HOME IN HURDLES. ■ LUCKY ALICE AND MAURIAENA SHARE MAIDEN The Avondale Jockey Club's spring meeting opened to-day, and will be concluded on Monday. Two little-fancied horses in Lucky Alice and Mauriaena won the divisions of the Maiden Plate. An outsider, in Red Comet, accounted for Lady Spalpeen and Master Roley in the Kingsland Hurdles. Still the day went against backers in the Members Handicap when the Southerner Leader was unplaced, Lady's Boy winning and paying a great price. , The Cup produced a victory for the top-weight Historic. The minor places were filled by Prodice and Hyde Park.
