Favourites Fail Till Fourth Race. Proceedings opened with tlic Maiden Plate, whicli, owing to tlie number of horses engaged, had to he run in two divisions. Carmint, Onewliero, Prairie' King, Shine On and Te Hoia were ■scratched in the first division and all started in the seconcl division. The pub'lic entrusted most support to Grime?tor, ' who Carried £625, with Clopton ( £498) . aM the bracket Measurer-Mountain ' 6uide (£498) next in demand. Neil j&tid Clopton were first out, followed by {V&lquette, Hannibal, Mountain Guide, Rose Willonyx and Measurer. The first to break the line was Nassock and Crimestor, and as they ran along the back the order was Crimestor, Fraser; Mauriaena, Tetrachate, and Catoma. Grossing the top Mauriaena moved tip, and was second to Crimestor, with Fraser, Tetrachate andOtranto next. When they turned for home, Grimestor, was still in charge from Eraser and Jjpauriaena, with Tetrachate also going: well. There "were 'no defectlbns in the Kingsland Htirdle race, for which Sir Archie ( £566) was made favourite, with Master [Roley (£514) and Lady Spalpeen (£484) also in request. The winner, ■ Red Comet, carried £131, aud paid a * solid dividend. When they passed the •stand Red Comet had charge from * Automne and Master Doon, with Wako . King, Sleepy Sol, Town Rambler and i Master Roley next. Going, along the hack Red Comet led Automne and Master Doon/ with. Wako King close up. Tlien ( came Sleepy Sol, Master Roley and Sir Archie. In the run home Lady's Boy finished on best and got the verdict b,y a. head from Oration, who beat Billikins by three-quarters of a length. The pool was a solid one, and when betting ceased Historic ( £1013) carried most money, with Paddon ( £1355) next in demand, while Prince Humphrey ( £730) and Prodice (£632) also got good support.
