LONDON WOOL SALES. FAIR COMPETITION. (Australian and N.Z. Press Association.)
(Received 10 a.m.) LONDON", September 18. At the wool sales 9324 bales were offered, whereof 904 were New Zealand. There was a splendid selection of good style Merinos, but a poor offering of other sorts. There was fair competition, and many withdrawals of second-hand lots. PRICES SLIGHTLY LOWER. The Bank of New Zealand has received the following advice from its London office under date of 17th inst.: The sales have opened with moderate competition and a large attendance of buyers. Compared with the close of last series, coarse and medium crossbreds are about %d lower, Merinos l%d to 2d lower. No halfbreds have yet been offered. SYDNEY WOOL SALES. SYDNEY, September 18. At the Sydney wool sales to-day 10.097 bales were sold. The market was unchanged. There was good general competition. Greasy. Merino sold to The Commonwealth and Dominion liner Port Alma left Sydney early this morning with 15,000 bales of wool for Dunkirk other ships now in port will take new season's wool from Australia. COLOMBO TEA SALES. (Australian and N.Z. Press Association.) COLOMBO, September 17.
There was no tea sale at Colombo last week. As a result 3,600,0001b were offered to-day. All grades were in good demand and the market was strong. The Quality was barely equal to that offered at the previous sale. Next week's catalogues will approximate 2,200,0001b. LONDON TALLOW MARKET., Messrs. Dalgety and Co., Ltd., report having received the following cablegram from their London house, dated 18th instant: — . Tallow.—Prices are nominally unchanged. DAIRY PRODUCE.
The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., has received the following cable from its London house, dated September 18: — Butter.—Choicest, 131/ to 182/. Market firm. Cheese.—White, 93/; coloured, 9i/Market steady.
