PROVINCIAL NEWS.
TURUA. The Turua Town Board has levied a general rate of Ud In the pound and a street lighting rate of id in the pound on a capital value basis. The board has approved a proposal to pay the Hauraki Plains County Council to lay red metal on the main highway north of the Turua post office.
TAURANGA.
The Tauranga Fire Brigade's monthly run in connection with the Handle Cup competition 'resulted:—Fireman W. Griffiths .1, Fireman C. Haua 2, Fireman W. Padlie 3. The Borough Council decided to call tenders for metalling Morton's Flat, on the Tauranga - Waihi highway/ and also the Oropi direct road. TE AROHA. Te Aroha Chamber of Commerce notified the personnel of the Auckland business representatives to travel in the commerce train. It was decided to extend Its nearty co-operation with the Borough Council in the arrangements to be made to entertain the visitors. It was agreed that the chamber give its support to the ' newly-formed Te Aroha Aero Club.
WHAKATANE.
At the Borough Council meeting on Monday a letter was received from the Minister of Lands that the Valuer-General was of opinion that the time is not yet ripe for a revaluation of the borough. It was agreed that Mr. Donaldson be granted an Increase In salary of £50 per annum, the position to be reviewed in three months' time.
