BRANCH IN EVERY TOWNSHIP.

The divisional organiser of the United party, Mr. Glover Clark, while en route to the Bav of Islands electorate, addressed a meeting of thirty members of the Whangarci branch of the party. Mr. A. J. McKay presided. The progress of the, Dominion organisation of the party was fully explained by Mr. Clark, and he answered questions concerning the present political situation. In response to a question about the primage duty, Mr.. Clark said that 51b of tea, which lasts the housewife about two months, would bear an extra penny duty. It would take over 3001b of salt —six years' supply—to pay Id. of the increased charge; 501b of fruit, the quantity used by the average houhehold in a year, would carry extra duties amounting to 2}d, and a year's supply of rice, sago, and tapioca would pay only an additional halfpenny. The organiser explained the incidence of the additional land tax, and pointed out that of 80,000 farmers in the Dominion only 2200 were affected. Proposals to set up a women's farming branch organisation were fully discussed. The organiser intends to establish branches in every township of the .Bay electorate, to place the party, if neces-. ar y, in the position to contest an election.
