The first woman road' scout of the new organisation for patrol duty on the Surrey roads, Miss Elsie Hornton, who a few days ago was a mannequin in a West End. store, says that there is a great contrast in patrolling the roads. She does not intend, however, to cease being feminine because It is a man s job. ... TlJe colour scheme of the uniform as a red and blue high-necked tunic, peaked cap, worn at a jaunty angle, black gaiters and white gauntlets. Her equipment will consist of a first-aid outfit and possibly powder-puffs.. A message which . appeared in the "Sydney Sun" on September. 12, stated: Girl motor cycle patrols, clad in red and blue uniforms, "pill-box" hats, breeches and leggings, will shortly appear on the English roads. They will be employed by the Women's Automobile Sports Association, which claims to be the only club of its kind in: the Empire. It has Professor Low as technical adviser. Mrs. 'Victor Bruce, the chief organiser, states that the association is seeking slim, smart, intelligent girls as forerunners of an army of road patrols. The association hopes to have movable caravans on the roads, equipped with tea baskets and toilet requisites.
