RACING NEWS.
NOTES FROM AVONDALE. 1 AN OFF MORNING. ARRIVAL OF SOUTHERN HORSES. There was little doing at Avondale this morning, most of the horses having an easy time. False Scent worked over a round on the coursp proper, but was not extended. Star Stranger was given useful pace work, and Historic was given long work. Knightlike, Cylinder, Oil King, Huntique, and Maori Boy were also given pace work. White Fang and Tahonia ran five furlongs in 1.7, the former being a shade in front at the finish. Tahotna shaped in good style, and looks well after his racing at Ilawke's Bay. Watch Officer and Gay Idea sprinted home from the half-mile post in 555, both going nicely at the finish. Arrivals. The following horses arrived at Avondale this morning:—Prodice, Desert Glow, Flying Prince, Value, Arikitoa, Air King, Biddy's Boy, Illuniinagh, Valmamaire, Piuthair, Silvermine, Chief Link, Awarere, Benzora, Lady Quex, Oration, and Karangawai. Riding Engagements. Riding engagements announced for the Avondale meeting are:—R. Mackie: Benzora, Mountain Guide, Tukunoa, Royal Ruler, Lady's Boy, Indolent, and Bennio (Guineas, second day). C. Davis: The Lover, Bennie (first day), Shine On, and Te Kawana. K. Gill: Belle Star, Lucky Alice, Thursby, Flying Juliet, Lady Comet, and William of Orange. C. Goulsbro: Oration.
