PUKEKOHE BOROUGH COUNCIL.

The Mayor, Mr. John- Routly, at the monthly meeting of the Pukekofo Borough Council. The Health Department forwarded the result of bacteriological examinatioa 0 « sample of the borough water, wliiA showed bacilli coli present in 10 cubic centimetree. It was stated that for the three years a similar report had been received regarding the sample taken i tt August, while for the remainder of the year the water proved to be pure after c-hlorination. It was suggested that the cause was due to some extra pollute baking place at the source of 6upp]y this particular time of the year. Special precautions will be taken next August to combat the trouble.

The Railway Department estimated the cost of redecking the Ea«t Street over, head bridge at £95 and asked the council to forward a cheqque for this amount, when the work of repairing the structure would be undertaken. It was decided to reply statin- the council did not recognise any liability in the matter. The waterworks committee wag requested to report on the question of providing adequate service for residentj in Jellkoe Road.

On the recommendation of the worW committee the following works are to be undertaken out of loan during the current year:—Widening Manukau : and Buckland Roads, at a cost of £870; Drury. Waiuku main highway, £270; Kitehener Road, £528; Valley Road, £700; Kitch, ener Road stormwater channel, £165; Ward Street stormwater channel, £335 and footpaths, £132; a total of £3000. In addition it was decided that the metalling of Franklin Road be commenced from the northern end before next winter.

The town planning committee's actios in refusing to grant a permit for the erection of a hall in Queen Street for the Orange Lodge was confirmed. A requot. was made on behalf of the lodge for an explanation as to the amenities to which the council considered the hall would interfere, and the steps the council deemed necessary .for the lodge to take in order- to erect a hall without intra* ference with such amenities. It was decided to reply stating that on account of the restricted length of the section, the hall would be erected. up to the front boundary and in consequence the pleasurable surroundings of an adjoniing resides tial property would be interfered with, particularly the outlook. Regarding the steps necessary to overcome the interference, it was decided to suggest that the lodge trustees purchase more land to allow of the building being erected in alignment with the residences. If this wew done the interference with the amenitiei of the locality would largely vanish.
