WORST FIGHTING.
MANCHURIAN FRONT. Soviet Bombing 'Planes Cause Heavy Damage. TWENTY CHINESE KILLED. (Australian and N.Z. Press Association.) (Received 11 a.m.) SHANGHAI, September 10. The worst fighting since the commencement of the Sino-Russian rupture is reported to be proceeding 100 miles south of Habarovsk. Already it has lasted two days and nights. Confirmation is belated but all reports agree that Soviet bombing 'planes were extremely active and inflicted heavy damage. The railway station was demolished at Pogranichnaya. There are strong local rumours that the Russian aggression is the outcome of alleged persecution of the Soviet internees in Manchuria. Suifenho, to the north of Vladivostok, reports the complete destruction of the railway station by Soviet bombers, the severance of communications and the demolition of a stationary armoured train. Twenty soldiers were killed. The inhabitants are fleeing in panic. Numerous smaller stations were bombed. The Chinese border defence force is holding all positions.
