VINDICTIVE LIBEL.
Labour Secretary Wins Case Against Sydney Paper. £3000 DAMAGES AWARDED. (Received 12 noon,) MELBOURNE, this day. For libel, which the Chief Justice described as vindictive and cowardly, Sylvester Hardiman, secretary of the Victorian branch of the Australian Labour party, was awarded £3000, being the full amount claimed from the "Workers' Weekly," a Sydney publication. The defendants were ordered to pay .all the costs. The libel was that under the sub-title "Scab Union Organiser" it was stated that Hardiman was in contact with the underworld, and when any dirty work was to be done he mobilised the slum elements.
