WHEEL AND TRACK NOTES.

COMING MEETINGS. (By ORION.) Sent 14-Combined Clubs Christchurch. The death is reported from Melbourne of Mr J B. Zander, who imported Emulator and Mauritius from the United States Mr. Zander was for many years a prominent figure in sporting circles. When the track is good F. Smith allows Linnett the Great to run along without actually asking her to show real .need. The bay mare is looking round and well, and may not take a lot of •work to put her right. G. Mitchell is now getting a strong team together. In addition to Sebisca, Nebraska, Polly's Picture, Great Balhn, and a maiden by Peter Moko, lie has taken Van JRich_inJiand. - The pacer, Tonv Victor, who was in S. Croats stable, is also with. Mitchell, and he has plenty to engage his attention now. W. Ker does not believe in allowing Uncle Bert to idle .his time away, and vesterctav afternoon he worked out a couple* of miles at a bit better than three-quarter pace clip. The bay gelding was not ready last meeting, but he should be improved by the time the Waikato fixture comes- along next month. Etta Cole is only doing the very lightest of exercise, but the season is early yet, and when the meetings are in full'swing she will be gathering in her share of the prize money. The daughter of Peterwah is good enough to win races off her present mark, while with the ordinary improvement she should make, her prospects are decidedly bright for the season. When the weather cleared yesterday it was thought many of the Epsom trainers would be at the track in the afternoon working their horses, but few put in an appearance. Geo. Pliipps worked Haerenga Pai' over several circuits at a solid clip, and the mare promises .to be ready, when the country circuit' has to be undertaken.

The" West Coast correspondent of the Christcburch "Times" reports that the secretary of the Greymouth Trotting Club,-: Mir. P. C. Heaphy, communicated with the Trotting Conference and pointed out that the date proposed by the Forbury Park Club clashed with the opening of the Greymouth meeting. Already the Auckland and Oamaru meetings are to be held concurrently with, the twoday meeting at Greymouth, and, if' a meeting were held in Dunedin on October 26, followed two days later by one lit Oamaru, it would have a detrimental effect tipon 'the number of horses and drivers attending the Greymouth event. "We are taking time by the forelock," said Mr. H. W. Kitch.inghani, president of the Greymouth Trdtting Club. "We have held the , date for about 20 years, and we have protested against what is really an attempt to get another day. In connection with the Oamaru meeting on Labour Day last year, an effort was made to hold a meeting at Timaru on the Saturday, the idea being to establish a circuit. That could not be done last year, and now they are trying to run a special meeting in conjunction with the Oamaru meeting on Labour Day." Mr. Etchingham said he felt that the dates committee would not agree with the date submitted by the Forbury Park Club. He wished to make it quite clear that he wanted the earthquake relief meeting at Forbury Park to eventuate on a suitable date, but it was no good helping the district at the expense of &s district.
