WAS HE SERIOUS?
j LICENSING OF BREWEKST. OX ROAD TO KING COUNTRY. (By Telegraph.—Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, Thursday. There was but one grave face in the House—and that was the face of the questioner—when Mr. R. A. Wright (Wellington Suburbs) asked the Minister of Customs -whether it was a fact that a brewery had been licensed on the Great South Road, Auckland, and whether there was not a danger that a brewery on the main south road would make it easier for'travellers to take liquor into the King Country. The Hon. W. B. Taverner replied that a license for a brewery had been issued, and it would be legal for liquor in quantities of two or more gallons to be sold, However, it did not seem likely that this would increase the risk of liquor being taken into the King Country, since travellers desiring to do that would be more likely to make their purchases at the wholesale places in Auckland ahd Hamilton.
