SANDERS CUP CONDITIONS. DISCUSSION ON RULE THREE. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) DUNEDIN, this day. At a meeting of the Otago Yacht Association, the Auckland Association replying to Otago's request for early consideration of the Dominion Conference resolution that rule 3 ("boats not to be interfered with") be removed from the conditions of the Sanders Cup contest stated that it did not draw up the rules. The rules were drawn up by a subcommittee, of which one representative was an Otago delegate. It was the opinion of the association tliat the rule should not be amended, and further that as tho Sanders Cup was a test, rules must ensure a fair test. "We Tinderstand the letter stated that rule 3 is meant to cover any extraordinary cases not provided for under Y.R.A. rules, or any other rules governing the contest: Our members, with two exceptions, failed to conceive how the rule could be applicable, and opinion was expressed that 4 rule 3 was liable to be used in contravention to standard rules and yachting practice." That no expert had yet been able to definitely interpret the rule was another point of argument. The following motion was carried:— "That this association communicates with other associations in New Zealand, and suggests that strong representations be made to Auckland to further consider the recommendation of the Dominion Conference."
