FARMERS' CONFERENCE.

VALUE OF TOP-DRESSING. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. The Dominion Conference of the Fanners' Union was opened to-day by the .Minister of Lands and Agriculture, the Hon. G, W. Forbes. The Minister of Industries and Commerce, the Hon. J. G. Cobbe, and the Leader of the Opposition, the Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates, also spoke. .Mr. Forbes, in his speech, dealt chiefly with the matter of improving pasture lands, on the great advance made in the past ten years, and saying no one could foretell the future. There was estimated to be fully 0,000,000 acres in Now Zealand that could be topdressed., Last year 2,250,000 acres were top-dressed. .Mr. Coates made the suggestion that a great deal of valuable help could be given to the Government if a board of reference were set up from among the primary producers, to which the' Government could refer matters of importance.
