NEW LABOUR APPOINTMENT,

RUGBY, June 17.

The King having approved that knighthoods be conferred on Mr. William A. Jowitt on his appointment as Attorney-General and on Mr. J. B. Melville on his appointment as Solici-tor-General, the Prince of Wales, on behalf of His Majesty, on Saturday conferred the accolade on them. Mr. Thomas Kennedy has been appointed Parliamentary Secretary to thu Treasury. Since 1927 Mr. Kennedy has been Chief Whip of the Labour party. The King has approved the appointment of Mr. Craigie Mason Aitchison, K.C., to be Lord Advocate for Scotland, and Mr. John Charles Watson, K.C., to be Solicitor-General.
