"SERVES US RIGHT."
SHOCK FOR COUNCIL.
NOXIOUS WEEDS ON
PROPERTY,
A "RIDICULOUS"' POSITION,
Included in a list of property owners 'ivho had neglected to clear noxious weeds from their properties, presented to to-day's meeting of the Manukau Council, was mention of a council property. All the owners were reconimended by the inspector (Mr. C. Clark) to be instructed to eradicate blackberry, and gorse from their lands within the statutory period of two months. ilr. S. Rickards thought it would not redound to the credit of the council for it to go out 't it had neglected to clear its land. '"It serves us right," said the chairman (Mr. F. M. Waters), while a councillor observed jocularly that it was the council's duty to carry out its plans without fear or favour. "This is no joke," declared Mr. Rickards. "It is a serious matter to think that the inspector should have to ask that the council lands be cleared. It shows that co-ordination between our various staffs is lacking."' The engineer (Mr. J. R. Page) said that it was an oversight that the name of the council had appeared on the list. It was not a case of the council prosecuting itself. That was impossible. It would have been better, however, had the inspector called his attention to the matter.
"I move that the council's name be struck off the list/' suggested Mr. J. S. Dickson, amidst laughter. "It is absolutely ridiculous to have a thing like that coming up." At Mr. Dickson's suggestion it was decided to notify the inspector that in future should he have any complaints concerning the council's propertv he should confer with the engineer.
