STABLE AND TRACK NOTES.

SEASON'S FIXTURES.

(By WHALEBONE.)

June 20, 22 —South Canterbury Jockey Club, June 21, 22 —i I invite's Bay J.C. June 29 —Waverlcy K.C. Juno 20—Asliburton County K.C. July 10, 11, 13—Wellington K.C. July 23—Waiinate District Hunt Club. July 25, 27—Gisborm K.C. July 27—South Canterbury Hunt Club.

Te Ngcru, wlio raced prominently at the Waikato spring meeting, lias just resumed work again at Te Awamutu. She is looking in nice order to undergo a further preparation for racing in the new season.

Singleton had not raced for some months past till be was saddled up for the Winter Oats Handicap at Napier on Saturday. He won by half a length, and the race is sure to improve him. Singleton should also be hard to beat in forthcoming engagements.

A solid looking three-year-old filly by Chief Ruler from Gladiolc is making good progress under 11. L. Russell's guidanco at Te Awamutu. This half-sister to Orchid, who is at present unnamed, looks like developing into a promising galloper.

Novar finished second in the Ahuriri Hurdle Race oil the first day of the Napier Park meeting, and was installed favourite for the Poraite Hurdles on Saturday, but just when he was threatening danger at the last fence he ran oil'. Novar needs a firm track to reproduce his best form. .

Mr. W. H. Gaisford has a couple of useful hurdlers in At arena and Home Made, both of whom accounted for events at the Napier Park meeting. The latter appeared to he a bit lucky that Novar ran oil' at the last hurdle, otherwise lie would have had a much more difficult task.

That promising hack Len, who has not raced since the Auckland autumn meeting, has been suffering from a seedy toe. Consequently he has been out of action at Te Awanjutu for some time past. The ailment is yielding to treatment and it is expected that lie will be able to resume work .shortlv.

Vaucluse, a six-year-old gelding by Valkyrian, has grown into a line looking sort. Provided ho trains on satisfactorily he should do well later on, for there is no doubt he possesses plenty of pace. Since joining 11. L. Russell's team at Te Awaniutu Vaucluse has put on a lot of condition and his trainer has great hopes of him racing well next season.

Mintie, a three-year-old full-sister to Catkin, by Catmint from Hukapapa, a member of A. Cook's team at Te Awaniutu, who is owned by Dr. Gilmer, of Wellington, has not been in any length of time, and still requires to be moulded into shape. She is rather a good-topped filly, but her action at present does not appeal. She may improve when site fines down in condition.

Since racing at the Auckland winter meeting, Lcitrim has been kept in steady work, and the son of Valkyrian is in nice order at the present time. It is not intended to race this geld in ;r at the Wellington meeting, but he will most likely make his next appearance at the Pakuranga meeting at Ellerslie in August. A half-brother to Ruapapa by Marble Arch in A. Cook's stable at Te Awamntu, owned by Mr. J. N. Hislop, of Auckland, is a promising looking sort. He is rising three, and is woll grown, with plenty of bone, and more robust' than the majority of the progeny of Marble Arch. This gelding has not been seriously tried so far, but on appearances he should make good when raced.

Fine Acre, after showing winning form at the Otaki meeting, was tried at hurdling at the Napier Park meeting, and the son of Acre was not' Jong in making good in this department. On the first day he finished " a moderate fourth, but on Saturday showed considerable improvement, for he won niccly. Fine Acre is one of A. JVI. Wright's team at' Foxton.

\ That good horse Pegaway, who won three events at the Auckland summer iheeting, but has been spelling since the Manawatu autumn meeting, has resinned work at Te Awaniutu, under A. Cook's charge. He was only taken up a ! couple of weeks ago, and in conseqiience is looking big, though he bears a Very healthy appearance. It is not intended to race him again until the spring.

Crown Area was taken over to Sidney iby J. McCombe some months ago, but he has not had a great deal of luck with him. He\ was narrowly beaten at Warwick Fatjm last month by Lord Eudorus, and it \vas stated on that occasion that horsemanship made the difference betweeji the two. On Saturday he annexed the Flying Welter at Rosehill, so that he has at last returned some of his expenses.

Queen's Choice is a useful sort, but appears to be rather unlucky this season, for out of eleven starts lie has failed to win, though he has been second 011 six occasions and third twice. He ran a couple of good races at the Napier Park meeting, but 011 the first day was beaten by Merry Damon, and on Saturday had to go under to Singleton. Que'cn's Choice should soon get 011 the winning list.

King's Jest ran such a good race in the Stewards' Handicap 011 the first day 'of the Napier Park meeting that he was looked upon as a certainty in the Ladies' Bracelet 011 Saturday, and he duly won. He had also scored a few weeks ago in the Highweight Handicap at the Hawke's Bay meeting. King's Jest conies from a good family, for lie is by King Mark from Hoy, and therefore'a full-brother to Anomaly, Snatcher, Penelophon and King's l\olly, and a halfbrother to Shirley.

At the present time the Te Awamutu trainer G. Pan] has only Aussie a'nd Papatu in work {at Te Awamutu. This pair were out doing useful tasks oil Saturday morning. Aussie has put on a lot of conditibn since he last raced at the Waikato hutumn meeting and is in splendid condition to undertake his trip to Australia. It is doubtful whether he ever looked better at this time of the season than he does to-day. Awarere got one of his feet pricked a few days ago and as a result has had to he spelled. Ill's owner is treating the injured foot and if he makes the progress expected it is not unlikely that he will accompany Aussie on the trip to Sydney. Papatu is looking in great order for spring engagements, and although he lias been somewhat of a disappointment in the past there is still time for him to rehabilitate hmself.
