TRAGEDY AT CEMENT WORKS,
LIMESTONE CASHES IN OFFICE,

NELSON, Monday.
Mr. A. D. Stubbs, third engineer at the • .''olden Bay Cement Company's works at Tarakohe, eight miles from Takaka, vi-< killed by the earthquake to-day.
Mr. Stubbs was working in his office
when many tons of limestone came '•"ashing down the cliff and fell on to the •• ""As a result'of his injuries Mr.
'-Uibbs died almost immediately. He was a married man, aged about 43 years, with a family. Half a dozen motor cars which were standing in the neighbourhood of Mr. Stubbs 5 office were crushed by the falling debris. A new building which the company c:ccted recently remains intact. The earthquake tremors continued during last night and this morning, though the shocks were not of very great severity. The community has had a most trying experience. The examination of some oi the business premises which suffered most severey shows that extensive re[,airs will be necessary. Communication beyond Owen Junction still blocked, and it is likely to be •■:ne time before it is renewed.
