STREET FIREWORKS.
ANOTHER FUSED CABLE,
FLAMES BURST FROM PAVEMENT.
A heavy explosion was followed by flames leaping from the footpath at the junction of Kitchener Street with Victoria Street shortly after noon today. The cause was another fused cable. The City Fire Brigade was called. For some time the flames kept leapino- upward until the Auckland Power Board officials cut the power off. The fierce heat caused the bitumen surface of the footpath to catch alight, and the blaze became several square yards in extent. The roaring sound was much akin to a painter's blow-lamp. The untoward happening caused a large gathering of spectators. °
