WHOLESALE POULTRY THEFTS
WANGANUI YARDS RAIDED. THIEVES IX MOTOR CAR. (By Telegraph.—Special to "Star.") WANGANUI; this day. A poultry enthusiast of Surrey Road, Springvale, named Newton, gives credit to a pen of Indian runner ducks being as eS'ective as a watch dog, and saving him from heavy losses of poultry on Friday night. For some time past poultry thefts have been numerous in Wanganui and district, and one farmer at Westmere lost 300 in one night. At midnight on Friday Mr. Newton was aroused by the agitation of ducks, and, rushing outside, was just in time to see two individuals streaking across a paddock. A few minutes later he heard a motor car start up. Not having a car of his own, he was unable to give chase.
