PUKEKOHE. United 11, beat Patumahoe 6. For the winners, tries were scored by McGowan and McKinuon, and the latter converted one and kicked a penalty. The results in the senior competitions were full of surprises, the two leading teams, Te Awamutu and Korakonui being defeated. Te Awamutu sustained their first defeat of the season by Pirongia. There was no scoie until about five minutes from time, when Joe Sterritt put in a strong run to score between the posts. Me also converted. Right on time Sinclair kicked a penalty goal for Te Awamutu. Len Spiers (Te Awamutu) had to leave lllfi field owing to slight concussion. Korakonui, who had previously only been beaten mice, again met defeat agaiust Rovers by 10 points to S after a keen game. The lirst match oE the season for the Finlay Cup, the trophy for competition between sub-unions of Waikato, was played at Matamata on Saturday, between Matamata (the holders) and Putaruni, Matamata winning by 2S to o. The initial exchanges were slightly in favour of the challengers, whose backs handled to advantage. The first score, however, came to Matamata. with a try by Syme. The home backs found themselves in the second quarter, and additional tries came from.l. Vosper. G. Ensor and C. Fausett. Yandle kicked a penalty goal for l'utaruru. The score at half-time was Matamata 12, Putaruni 3. In the second half the home forwards held the opposing pack, without getting the ball. The Matamata backs played brilliant football, and added tries by Ake. Brown, A. Story and S. Egan, two of which were converted by Story. Although Matamata got eight tries they only earned the major points in two instances. With a little more weight In. the forwards the winners would be one of the brightest combinations seen in Waikato for many years. United 13, bent Ongarue 0. Athletic 10, beat Taumarunui 3. CAMBRIDGE. United 11, beat Tauwhare Maoris 0. Hautapu 9, beat Leamington 8. Juniors. —Leamington 10, beat United 0. A feature of the day was the last minute win of Hautapu over Leamington, the leaders of the competition. United having defeated Tauwhare Maoris, the competition with two rounds completed, is very interesting, the points being as follows: — Leamington 9, llautapu S, and United 7. The match between llautapu and Leamington was the hardest and fastest forward game seen in Cambridge for three seasons, and with Leamington leading by two points up to a minute of time, the excitement was most marked. Then from a loose movement Hautapu scored the- winning try, and the bell rang as the ball, which did not go over, was being kicked. For llautapu W. Bourke scored a try and kicked two fine penalty goals. X. Morse scored n try for Leamington, which was converted by Thomas, who also kicked a penalty goal. The game in which United defeated Tauwhare Maoris was not productive of good football. For the winners Walker, Robertson, Robinson and Byrne scored tries, none of which was converted. Other results were:—Kaipaki 11. beat Hautapu 3. Third Grade: Leamington 9, beat Kaipaki 3. TAURANGA. Hamilton City 11, beat Tauranga 7. Going and C. Christie were the scorers for Hamilton. MORRINSVILLE. Kereone IC, beat Tatuanui 7. United IS, beat Terriers 14. OTOROHANGA. Otorohanga drew with Maniapoto in a fast, clean game, full of incident. In the tirst half Maniapoto scored 11 points to Otorohahga's 3, but the second half Otorohanga evened up. The final scores were 11 points each. THAMES. '. ■ There was a large attendance at Rhodes Park to witness the cup fixture between Old Boys and Physical Training. The teams were evenly matched. After a hard fought game College Old Boys were the victors. by 12 to 5. The first quarter saw both teams playing cautiously and ended with no score. Soon after the change over, from a scramble in Physical Training's twentyfive, Brunton, for College, broke through and "scored near the corner flag. Wells failed to convert. Although lihysicnl Training had College hard pressed on one or two occasions they just failed to score, and at half time the score stood the same. On resuming College made the game more open, and a fine run by Buchan enabled Newland to cross the line, but the try was unconverted. Physical Training then put some dash into their play, and a line solo effort by Harrison resulted in that player crossing the line. Cameron converted with a difficult kick near . the touchline. Both teams then put in some hard play, and. College added unconverted tries by Buchanan and Morrissey. The game ended with the scores: College Old Boys 12, Physical Training 5. . Junior Games.—College Old Boys (third grade) beat Physical Training by 10 to 0. Plaving. at Wharepoa, Old Boys Juniors beat-Kamblers by 8 to 3.
