PONSONBY BEAT TEACHERS.

With-both sets of backs opening out, and the forwards engaging ill many a willing encounter, the game from the outset gave promise of a bright and interesting exhibition. In line-out play Fonsonby showed a superiority, and the mechanism of the backs "was often set in motion by this means. Training-college backs, fed from loose rucks, looked ■dangerous for a time, but Ponsonby soon .countered with their own trenchant tactics. -

QulcKly and decisively the fortunes changed. 'As the result of a scrum McManus Sent the backs away, the ball travelling to. Cainmick, who sold a beautiful dummy and passed to L. Hook, who was ■well .tackled by Butler. From the melee which-followed Cannnick dived over at the. corner,; Solomon missing the kick. Ponsonby went to the attack again, and Solomon fed R. Hook on the blind side, the wing man side-stepping his way across. The same player, concerted.

Trainrag College forwards attacked, but their! reign was a short one, and within a minute five more points had gone to Ponsonby't,' credit. R. Hook short punted to n gap,,the ball bouncod for him, and jumping high to gather it he side-stepped Butler and scored under the posts. He converted. Ponsonby had done devastating work, and had HCpred ,13 points in the first quarter.

Soon.after ,the start of the second quarter there-■•'was a delightful piece of work by the Ponsonby backs. McManus sent Solomon away, the wing man passing to Lucas, ■vvho wag bottled "by T/awrie. He got a quick pass -away to R. Hook, however, and followed- up to take the in-pass and score. R. HooK! missed the kick. Fast work by the Training College forwards, and some interesting moves by the student backs had Ponsonby strenuously defending, but the defence never wavered. After a scramble near the line IPalmer got over. The kick missed. Again from the kick-off Ponsonby backs opened out in delightful style. After three movements had broken down R. ' Hook snapped up from a scramble and got over. He did not add the two points. Just before half-time Weir, who was playing a sterling game at first five-eighths for the students, had his elbow hurt and was replaced by MeRae. The-store board'lit; half-time read-: Ponsonby 22, Training College 0.

Training College, with 2'-' points against them, started off the second spell with many a whirlwind attack. They stormed the Ponsonby line with a running lire of concerted attacks. First the forwards and then the backs made matters lively, their all-round-work ■■being a big improvement on that of the lirst spell. Xow the students' backs, sent racing away by Kae. set sail in glorious runs, and had it not been for greatly improved I'onsonby tackling the teachers would Lave got over the line. Then, from a clever inside manoeuvre, Abbott gathered the ball and flashed over at the corner. He goaled with a beautiful kick.

All the attack was being done by Training College now, the backs delighting the crowd with fast movements. After the ball had gone along the line on one occasion Abbott short punted, and in the race for the ball the, wing man was obstructed, u try being given. ".. ',•',. Fourteen points now needed to win, the students never for ti moment let up, and in the, early part of the last quarter they were continually on the attack. They made adhiirnble efforts to put on points. Ponsonby backs in the last i'ew minutes did till sorts of surprising things. Once Cammiclc intercepted, ran 20 yards, and passed to Jamieson. It looked like a try, but Lawrlc came across with n great burst and unset the ronsonby five-eighths before lie could get the ball away. Then he cleared. Ponsonby ■were still attacking when the final bell sounded. Ponsonby 22 Training College 8 Mr. F. E. Sutherland refereed. . "TECHS" BEAT GRAFTOIT. Technical Old Boys beat Grafton by 11 points to nil, the game being disappointing. The Grafton forwards tried to force the pace but their backs were fumbling badly andmade little headway. Technical- backs on the other hand handled confidently. They forced play to the opposition end. where Kennedy, being" bustled, lost the ball under the nofits, and- Lambert scored an easy try. C. Keane converted. "/..., Starting'the second' half, Hamiora put. in a fine run and his forwards fallowed-up with a brief, rush. Smart work by the whole of the green backs had Grafton hard pressed, but after several scrums near the line they got off :'J?lay..w.as rery ragged and uneventful. At l&sfc C. Keane broke the monotony with t a good effort that beat the opposing wing, and Ansley, who had followed through fast, was able to touch'down.'." Tur.bott inipsed with the kick. * . ■ The final spell went the way of the others. D. Keane added to the score by kicking a goal from a mark well back. The first and se'c6n.d.;fluartors were very evenly contested, and there wan no score at halftime. Grammar- went hard after the breather, and a v passing rush allowed Bell to score >. well out.- Gardiner converted with a beautiful kick: The liome side then look a turn, and Falwassei--took-a-pass from Turei to racs over. Turei equalised with a good kick. Manukau went to the front earlv in the final .quarter, as the result of K. Brimble cutting in and giving Turei a clear run in. 'VARSITY'S WIN,

University had a win against City which was bv no means impressive. Early in the game City took the load by means of a very fine penalty goal kicked by K. Ifwersen, and by half-time the scores were even, Carter having scored a try for the students. Having been held by the City forwards in the first spell, 'Varsity threw the bull about in the second session, and eventually wore clown the opposition, Carter scoring after a series of passing attacks. Towards the close of the game Bush put ov«r a penalty goal, and University -finally were winners by 9 points to 3. JUNIOR RESULTS. SENIOR B GRADE. Marathon 11, beat North Shore C.
