TO CORRESPONDENTS.
ARGUMENT (Birkenhead) .—The world's record for 100 yards is given by most authorities as 91s, run by J. Donaldson at Johannesburg, South Africa, on February 12, 1910. This, of course, is a professional record. The amateur record is given variously by different authorities as 9As bv J. V. Scholz in 1925, C. W. Padcfock and R. Locke (all in U.S.A.) in 1920; and 9 3-5s by several runners between the years 1900 and 1922. In claiming 9. 2-os, stated to have been done by two American runners within the past year, as a world's record, the American Press cither ignores the claims of the professional (for Donaldson's figure is l-40s better than 9 2-ss), or is claiming merely a world's amateur record.
