ELLERSLIE'S BUDGET.
EXPENDITURE OF £11,500.
LARGE SUM FOR INTEREST.
DRAINAGE LOAN PROPOSED
• The estimated- expenditure of the Ellerslie Town Board for the current year is £11,500, which is the same as last year's budget. Principal among the financial commitments of the board is interest liability on loans, for which a sum of £4173 will be required.
Among the other items will be £092 for sinking funds; £838 for the hospital levy; £490 for street lighting, and £1206 for sundries. After meeting all anticipated expenditures in other directions the board will have about £3000 available for footpaths, roads, and general improvement works.
The levy for the War Memorial Mus euirfftamounts to £00.
In connection with the estimates • the board lias before it a motion to strike a rate of J)d in the £ on the unimproved value of the district, will come up for confirmation at tho meeting on June 18. It is proposed to allow a discount 0f£250 for the prompt payment of rates. Rates become payable on June 20 and the rebate, which amounts to 5 per cent, will be allowed on all rates paid within 30 days of the due date. Next Tuesday the board will consider a motion to raise a sum of £1200 for the drainage of a portion of Ellerslie 'in the Waiteinata watershed. This area, including about 20 houses, cannot be economically drained into the Manukau, and it is therefore intended to incorporate it in the Auckland and Suburban Drainage Board's area.
