CONFUSED ELECTION.

S. African Party Ruined By

Selfish Ambitions.

UNEXPECTED ELEMENTS,

(Australian and N.Z. Press Association.)

Received 9.30 a.m.)

CAPETOWN, June 7.

The general secretary of the Labour Council advises sympathisers to vote for the South African parcy. He states that the Labour party was wrecked and ruined by selfish ambitions which is the most pitiable thing that has happened in South African politics.

The introduction of unexpected elements leaves the country confused as to the prospects of the general election. Dominion status has been dispelled by the chief differences of the Dutch section of the population.

The more sober element believe that the present differences are not substantial. Uncertainty has arisen by the bitter division in the Labour ranks. The Creswellites and the Nationalists are solidly combined, while the National Councilites'are not supporting the South African party.

The only certainty is that (.lie Labour party will be considerably weakened. They believe that a pact will secure a sufficient majority to form a Government. The Ministers claim a majority of thirteen, while the South African party anticipates a narrow majority over all parties.
