NEWMARKET TRAFFIC.

ALTERNATIVE ROTJTE

PROPOSED.

IMPROVED.IN .REMUERA ROAD.

Proposals of. the Botoilgh Council for improvement of the.Brpadr way traffic outlet, have been given: fresh prominence by the Railway Department's action in offering the workshops'for sale. The area which will be cleared by the removal of the workshops has frontages to Remuera Road and Broadway. Negotiations have been carired out by the Newmarket Council with Lhe Department to obtain a piece of land running i na straight line from Remuera overhead bridge to' Morrow Street. The council is .at present awaiting the...Dgp.artment's decision on the question of price. v A scheme for subdividing the area has meanwhile been prepared; and the borough council has, threfore, become somewhat concerned about its proposal.. Traffic congestion at the intersection of Remuera Road and Broadway has been a local problem for some time; and the only way for a motorist to. avoid the "bottle neck" of Broadway has been by a devious route into Morrow Street.; /

The Hon. W. B. Taverneiy Minister of Railways, promised the Newmarket Council last month that-the question of price would be given careful consideration.
