FILLING HIS PIPE.
MAN KILLED BY TRAIN.
SIGNALS NOT NOTICED,
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.)
WELLINGTON, this day.
Mr. Barton, S.M., held an inquest on the body of William Daniell, who was killed by a train on the Petone crossing on May 24. The evidence was that Daniell continued on to the line, although all signals were working and the train whistle was blowing continuously. It appeared that he was absorbed in filling or cleaning his pipe. The coroner's verdict absolved the driver from any blame whatever.
