SENSATION AT FUNERAL.
LAD ATTACKS STEPFATHER. AT HIS MOTHER'S GRAVE. ST. HELENA. (Sacramento), March.7. As the body of Lis mother was being lowered into its grave, Paul Manuel, 19. brushed aside his tears and leaped savagely through the circle of .mourners to attack his stepfather, G. P. Barnett. The fighting pair clinched, staggered and exchanged blows at the brink of the grave as the coffin was lowered beneath the earth. The undertakers forgot to throw the first soil upon the dead, the weeping relatives stared in amazement, and Manuel administered a beating to his stepfather before they were finally separated. "I hate him, I hate him," cried the boy when he was arraigned in St. Helena Justice Court on a battery charge. Manuel accused his stepfather, a rancher, of C'alistoga and St. Helena, with marrying his mother for money and also with abusing her. Barnett was recently arrested on a statutory charge and was out on hail awaiting trial in the Sn'orior Court at Napa. Manuel lives in Sc. Helena.
