NEW POWER STATIONS.

EXPENDITURE OF £80,000. EFFECT OF TRANSPORT LOAN DECISION OF POWER BOARD, *' An important report bearing on the carrying of the Transport Boards loan was submitted to the Auckland Electric Power Board at yesterday's meeting by the general manager (Mr. R. H. Bartley). It was as follows:— "The successful carrying of the Transport Board's loan proposals and its decision to proceed immediately with extension work makes it necessary for this board to immediately consider extension work also in order to provide the power supply requirements of the Transport Board. . The work required calls for the erection of two additional sub-stations. It demands, too, the completion of our 22,000 volt mains between Penrose and Kingsland, and likewise, the 22,000 volt cable link between Kingsland and Point Chevalier. "It is suggested that the plant in one station comprise two units each of 1000 kilowatts and in the other station two units each of 500 kilowatts. I further recommend that these stations be fully automatic in operation and that a supervisory control system be installed so that each sub-station can be independently handled by the staff at King's wharf station. "There is a great deal of work to be done before the supply can be made available and the Transport Board requires to know the approximate dates of completion for both sub-stations in order that it may arrange its work accordingly. I estimate that it should be possible to have supply available in July, 1930. The Dominion Road extension does not require much work on our part and power in this connection can be available almost immediately. "We are proceeding at once with the specifications for switch gear, plant, additional cables and details for the supervisory control. I have notified the Transport Board of these approximate dates subject, of course, to the confirmation of this board. "I estimate that the total cost of the above work will approximate £75,000 to £80,000, this being provided for iu the recent loans authorised." The report was considered in committee and adopted.
