WAIPA RACING CLUB.
EXTRA PERMIT REQUIRED
The Waipa Racing Club met on Saturda v. Mr. A. S. Wallace presiding. The secretary reported that on March 7 the Minister* of Internal Affairs, Hon. P. A. de la Perrelle, had intimated his intention to pay an early visit to Te Awamutu to inspect the clubs course and appointments, but no such visit had yet been made. The secretary was instructed to write to Mr. V . J. Broadfoot, M.P., asking if he could advise the club' of the probable date of the nsit of the Minister. . Members expressed surprise at the seeming dilatoriness of the Hamilton headquarters staff of the Country Racing Clubs' Breeders' Association, and the secretary was instructed to write again to that "body in an endeavour to reach some finality so far as service fees are concerned. Discussion arose over the club s endeavours to get a second totalisator permit, and the failure of the effort for this racing season. It was decided to continue 0 the representations in the hope that a permit will be available for the 1930 season. If so, the club desires a permit to hold a steeplechase meeting on May 24, 1930. Mention was made of the Conference and Minister approving a totalisator meeting at Pukekolie, under the aegis of the Frankton Racing Club, which has already held one meeting this season. The" secretary stated that Mr. W. J. Broadfoot, M.P., had advised the cluD that he had received a letter from the Minister of Internal Affairs to the effect that the two floating one-day totalisator permits had been allotted for the current year to Waverley and Whangarei Clubs respectively. Since then the Franklin Club had evidently obtained permission to race on May 10. It was decided to bring the matter under Mr. Broadfoot's notice and ask for information concerning the granting to Franklin of a permit, in view of the information conveyed by him to the club. The secretary was instructed to apply for the refund of £250 from the Government under section S of the Finance Act for the purpose of assisting in the purchase of additional land for a motor paddock. It was decided lo support the nomination of the Hon. E. W. Alison and Messrs. D. McLeod, H. Rothery, D. Fulton and K. J. Rennie to the district committee, and Messrs. G. W. Vercoe and W. H. Wackrow as district club representatives on the New Zealand Racing Conference Following on the consideration of correspondence regarding the probability of the Government permitting the introduction of an amending Gaming Bill, it was decided to favour the passing by Parliament at its next session of a Gaming Bill providing for the telegraphing of investments on the totalisator to club secretaries, and for the publication of dividends. It was further agreed to invite members to sign a petition to Parliament in favour of this legislation, as is being done throughout the Dominion.
