CHAIRMAN RESIGNS.

AUCKLAND TRANSPORT BOARD

DECISION BY MR. ALLUM.

Mr. J. A. C. Allum, chairman of the Auckland Transport Board and tlie City Council's representative, has forwarded his resignation to the Mayor, Mr. George Baildoji. A letter accompanying the resignation states: "In view of tlie result of Wednesday's poll, I think it is my duty to resign my seat on the Transport Board. My personal inclination is to resign at once, but I feel that at this juncture such a step might embarrass the_ board and this I am anxious at all costs to prevent. I am accordingly enclosing my resignation with this letter and I desire to leave myself unreservedly in the hands of the council." Appreciation of the work of Mr. Allum on the council and the Transport Board was expressed by the Mayor, who said it was a keen disappointment to him .that Mr. Allum had not been re-elected. The resignation will come before the council at its meeting next Thursday. Transport in the suburban districts will be the subject of an address by Mr. Allum at the Methodist Hall, Kingston Avenue, off Dominion Road, on Monday evening. Mr. Allum will make a statement in regard to his position. Address by Mr, Lundon. Mx*. J. R. Lundon will address a public meeting at the Town Hall on Monday evening on Transport Boai'd matters.
