CAUGHT IN THE ACT.
THEFT OF POSTS. TWO MEN CONVICTED. (From Our Own Correspondent.) TAUPO, Friday. William Boger Beaumont was charged "before Mr. S. L. Paterson, S.M., with stealing 100 posts, the property of H. Langguth. The evidence disclosed that 150 posts had been removed, arid the matter "was reported to the constable in charge of Taupo. The constable, returning to Taupo about midnight, met the defendant with a load of posts. The following morning -the constable *went to Botorua and interviewed the defendant, who admitted taking them, and said he had bought them from Werahiko. This proved to be untrue. .Defendant was convicted and fined £20 and costs £4 8/.
• Albert Peard was charged with stealing 138 posts, also the property of H. Langguth. Peard's lorry, with the stolen posts, had a blowout, and while he was away getting repairs done the owner of the posts happened along and saw his branded posts on Peard's lorry. The police were communicated with and the posts were found in a railway truck at Ngongotaha. Constable McMullan appeared for the police in both the posts cases and Mr. Dingle, of Eotorua., for the defendants. Peard was convicted ana lined £20 and costs £3 2/6.
