MEETING SIR HARRY.
"IT WILL COST YOU 8/.» SCOTTISH GATHERING AMUSED. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) HAWERA, this day. . The traditional wit of the Scitsman was shown in a new light at Hawera last night. It was a case of hen Scot meets Scot, and 200 members of the Hawera Scottish Society roared witli laughter when the tactics of Sir Harry Lauder were' announced by the local chieftain. A decire to entertain Sir Harry on the occasion of his visit to Hawera had led the committee to invite him to attend and afternoon tea function. Sir Harry had replied that he. could not accept, because he would not- be arriving till 4 p.m., and he wished to rest until his performance the same evening. Sir Harry, caid the chieftain, would be very glad —and a concession •it seemed —to meet as ■ many Scots as wished to see him at the back of the stage -after the performance. . . "It will cost you 8/ to-go to the concert," said the Chieftain 'Campbell. There was a long pause, and the building shook with laughter.
