Hansen, an artisan of Copenhagen, who was choking with a piece of crust in his throat, had the presence of mind to mate a pocket knife incision in his throat which enabled him to breathe until a surgeon removed the obstacle. The other case came from Budapest. Professors Balint and Pollachek, the latter a noted throat specialist, were conversing when Balint took a lit, under which he was suffocating, when Pollachek made an incision in his throat with a penknife and saved his life.
