ONEHUNGA POLICE COURT.
The following cases were dealt with at the Onehunga Police Court by Mr. F. H. Lcvien, S.M.:— Driving While Drunk.—J. Langton, for being drunk while in charge of a horse and cart, was fined £3 and costs. Assault.—Fred Baker did not appear when charged with assaulting his stepson, X. A. Aldred. He was fined 20/ and costs (10/). Speeding.—E. Harkwell, P. Ford, C. Lourd, E. Still, G. Owen and D. McKinley were fined 20/ each and costs for exceeding the speed limit. A Savage Dog.—Mary Ellis was ordered to pay 10/ costs for keeping a savage dog and was ordered to destroy it. Two Charges.—William J. Munroe denied being on enclosed premises and using obscene language. W. H. Robinson said that Munroe entered his yard at about 3 a.m. on February 21. It was after he had put the defendant out on to the road that the obscene language was used. Munroe said in defence that he had been working- at his shop late and when passing Robinson's gate about 2.30 a.m. he leaned against the post, but did not enter the yard. Robinson came out and caught him by the arm, and in the scuffle they got on to the street. He denied having used the obscene language alleged. The evidence of Mrs. Munroe was also taken in defence of her husband. Mr. Levien accepted the evidence for the' prosecution as being the more reliable of the two. Munroe was convicted and discharged for the first offence and fined £2 for the other. A Serious Charge.—Peter Dowie, 42 years of age, was charged with committing an indecent assault on a girl eleven years of age on March 23 last at Onehunga. Detective Bickerdike prosecuted. Accused pleaded not guilty, and after formal evidence had been heard he was committed to the Supreme Court for trial. 1
