(Australian Press Assn.—United Service.)

(Received 9.30 a.m.)

CACUTTA, April S.

The frontier peace is jeopardised by Afghan rivals appealing to tribes on the British side of the frontier to participate in their civil war. Tlie first definite indication of trouble" arrived four days ago. Hitherto British political officers hail kept the tribesmen quiet, but in one section tho Afghans actually addressed the Molimands and Afridis while the opposing section circulated a similar appeal to the Wazirs and Mahsuds. Political officers are vigorously pursuing these distributive agencies, who, if unchecked, may produce considerable unrest in the tribal areas, which may lead to complications and the need for protective action. The Afghan combatants drifting into India are promptly disarmed, and movements of the Afghan traders and officials into India are discouraged.
