REVIEWS OF NEW MUSIC.

We have received two very good jazz numbers from Messrs. D. Davis and Co. (Sydney), both of which should become exceedingly popular. "I Don't C'are' is a catchy number, excellent for dancing purposes. As a song it is not quite so successful; the words are a trifle petulant:— I don't care if you ro away. I don't carp if you jro to stay, I don't care if you sifrh, I don't care if you cry. I don't <-arp, and why should I? I don't carp if you leave me flat. I don't care any more than that . . . However, the music is first-rate. "Where the Shy Little Violets Grow ' is anything but shy. It is almost rollicking, a thing which contributes greatly to its value. It is rather reminiscent of the older sort of popular song, when the "ragtime" was evolving into the "jazz," and has something of the virility of that period. Certain types of the "popular ballad" seem to have gone to seed a little in late years, and it is refreshing to encounter one that has red blood in its veins.
