CANTERBURY MARKETS. CHRISTCIIURCH, Friday. No change is reported in the wheat market. Occasional lines are being purchased by millers at 5/7 to 5/7%, on trucks, for Tuscan, and 6/ for Hunters. A good deal of wheat is going into store. Fowl wheat is quoted at b/lVi, on trucks, for prompt, and 5/8 for forward. Oats are meeting with a weak demand. A grade Gartons are quoted at 3/3* A to 3/4, f.0.b., s.i., and B's at 3/oVfe to 3/1 for spread delivery, equal to 2/8 and 2/5 on trucks. Algerians are worth 2/3 to 2/6, on trucks. At the low prices farmers are not offering freely. Chaff is dull, and has sold at £5 of, f.0.b., s.i., or about £3 10/ on trucks. Some good barley returns are being recorded, but growers outside those who contracted are not receiving a very satisfactory price. It ranges up to 3/9 on trucks. Most of the contract barley was on a basis of 4/3 to 4/6 a bushel. Peas coming to hand are of very indifferent quality, only a small proportion of the earlier offerings being up to grade. Yields are also on the disappointing side. No crop was affected by the heavy rains early in the year as was the pea crop. Values remain at 5/3 to 5/6 a bushel oil trucks. There is no inquiry from Home, but the tnarket there is reported to be firm. Akaroa cocksfoot is selling at Bd, and a halfpenny more is being paid for exceptional quality. Machine-dressed is quoted at l/O Perennial and Itp'ian ryegrass are unchanged, being quoted at 4/6 and 3/6 to 3/9, respectively for farmers' dressed. Potatoes retain the firmer tone mentioned in the mid-week, though . values are not moving to any extent. Some business has been done for March-April at £5. f.0.b., s.i., but sellers now want £5 2/6. July-September have been sold at £6. A few inquiries have co.ne from Auckland for March delivery. Values on trucks remain at £3 12/6 to £3 15/. Onions are inclined to be weak. The crop is earlier this season and generally is of an excellent quality. Main crop ia quoted at £4 10/ to £4 15/.
