ON THE ROADS.

ADVICE FROM A.A.A.

CONDITIONS FOR MOTORISTS

CLAY SURFACES IX USE AGAIN.

Based on conditions yesterday the Auckland Automobile Association have issued the following report: —

North Auckland.—Reconstruction workis still proceeding satisfactorily between Auckland and Whangarei, both on the east and west coasts. On practicallv all roads, especially the clay sections, good surfaces are to be found. A considerable amount of new work has been done be tween Okaiaku and Raneiahua and the road via Opononi, through Waipoua Forest Road and Kauri Park, is in good order. Rain has fallen overnight at Whangarei, but to date has had no serious effect on the roads. Reformation work is progressing rapidly on the Lincoln Road and tie association still recommends the Waitakere route, although somewhat bumpy. On the Lincoln Road gangs, graders and rollers are to be encountered, also reformation work near Lincoln Bridge.

Te Kuiti-National Park.—The association advises this route should be used only in fine weather, as a short period of rain would necessitate the use of chains. However, fine weather prevailing, motorists will experience little difficulty in taking this route, there being three bad stretches that require careful driving. After leaving the turn-off at the main road eight miles out from Te Kuiti the road is very bumpy for nine miles until Aratora Junction is passed. Reformation work is progressing satisfactorily at Ongarue and Te Koura. making several detoiirs necessary, and motorists should carefully note detour signs. The remainder of the road has a and provides good motoring, wifi the exception of a small stretch between Oio and Raurimu. The road here is not metalled and is being reformed; should it rain bad conditions will be encountered.

Taumarunui-Stratford.—There is a fair amount of traffic on this road at present, travelling via the Wanganui River Road through Aupokoe to Tokarimu Junction. This is a pretty drive and a short route to Stratford, but it must be avoided after rain, as the road is still under construction and is narrow, with several papa cuttings.

Hamilton-Morrinsville.—This road is [still holding up to heavy traffic and the [grader has been working on several sections, mainly between Xewstead aiu! Eureka. The road surface provides good travelling.

Xgaruawahia-Huntly.—With the exception of two short stretches of loose metal near Huntly this road is now in good order.

—This Toad is still rough and bumpy and care should be exercised in driving through the loose sandy stretches. The dust nuisance i? very prominent.

Xgaruawahia-Waingaro.—This road is in fair order at present, having a good hard metal surface. Road improvement is being carried out between Glen Massey and Xgaruawahia.

Waihi-Paeroa. —Fair progiess is being made with the reconditioning of this road, especially the bumpy section be tween Waihi and Waikin'o, where the holes in the road are now being patched.
